[Hai-users] Replacing ALC switch with UPB

UPB communicates over the power line so you definitely need 110VAC to use UPB communication. You are correct, UPB support was never in the Aegis 2000 (or OmniPro). It is worth noting that a Pro II with 3.x firmware is light years ahead of the Aegis 2000. Most importantly you gain Ethernet control.

It's an Aegis 2000, so I'd need a ~$1000 OmniPro-II board in order to get proper UPB support on the controller and retain support for the keypads. If I had AC wiring to the keypads I could replace them with UPB keypads and just not bother interfacing the lighting to the old Aegis, but I don't think there are any UPB keypads that would work over a Cat5 line.

Since the KLP-7 is nothing more than an input to the controller it makes no difference which lighting solution you choose. The updating of the Aegis board depends on the age. If it is 2000 then you will want to upgrade. If it is a 3000, you can just get an current Pro II chip and PCAccess. The KLP-7 is still supported in the current firmware.
