Yes, when installing a HAI, you NEED to install a DSL filter in front of the
RJ-31X connection. This means you will need to split the incoming phone
line prior to the RJ-31x and after the demarcation point. One split goes
directly to the DSL modem, the second split goes thru the DSL filter and
than to the RJ-31X.
An Alternative and easier solution; Leviton makes a DSL Splitter/Filter
designed specifically for this purpose. Leviton Part #47616-DSB. As you may
know this is a half width module which is compatible in several different
structured wiring footprints.

Subject: [Hai-users] DSL installation
I'm trying to install Verizon DSL at home. Do I need to put a filter
on the phone line that connects to the OMNI II inside the box, which BTW is
not a standard phone connector plug? It is wider plug. Is that connection in
"series" with the rest of the phones in the house? If I disconnect the plug
inside the box, the house phones lose the dial tone. Would putting the
filter in that line, be equivalent to putting a filter in the modem line?
Thanks for any input
Edgar
