Rhule takes responsibility - so what?

I don't think it does mean much to the fans and the public. But, I don't think it was intended for the fans either. Most of the time it is the coach saying that for the team's, players and assistants, benefit. It is basically letting the team know it was his fault and he is taking the blame. The team may already know it but in the players position it is nice to hear. I have heard coaches on several levels do that on occasion.

I have seen instances where it isn't the HC's fault at all but he says that anyway. He is trying to deflect the blame off his team.

Coach Rhule takes the responsibility for not calling a time out when Nebraska had the wrong defensive package in ahead of Indiana’s winning touchdown.

So, what does that mean? Is he going to fine himself?

What’s the point of ‘taking responsibility’ when it doesn’t result in ANYTHING happening??
