[Hai-users] How to connect PC Access for the first time

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your response, your message set me on the right track.

There were multiple problems that occurred at the same time. The laptop I had been using for this purpose started giving the blue screen of death. Going back to the old desktop I had to sort out the serial ports (it had six) to figure out which was which, so two serial boards in the panel and six on the PC and no indication at any time of which was working. Finally I got out the scope and figured out which port PC-access was using, but there was still no action at the HAI serial board LEDs.

Finally I dropped the baud rate to 300 and it started working, sort of. I downloaded the programs and the all the consoles started beeping like crazy and the download errored out. Finally I figured out that the file was set to 9600 baud and, after downloading at 300, when the new programming took effect it upshifted the baud rate and did not complete programming. Curiously I then tried downloading at 9600 and it everything started working.

One day I will upgrade to an OmniPro II and dump the serial ports all together. Not too excited about reentering all the programming but so it goes.

Anyway, thanks for the 300 baud tip, it got me going and now everything seems to be fully functional.

All the best!

Good Morning Ken,

It's been a LONG time.

I also installed a replacement Aegis board about 4 years ago after a lightning strike and all was working great until 3 recent power surges, outages, lightning storms.

Now I can ONLY communicate with my PC Access at 300 baud. At first I thought the serial boards had completely failed as the previous default settings of 9600 (or better) failed.

There have been SO many changes with our dinosaur units, I'm amazed they still work at all! And of course, X-10 technology is obsolete. I would probably consider an OMNI II pro, but will probably be leaving my house soon.

What you describe is EXACTLY my case -- except dropping to 300 b does work almost every time for me.

Hope this helps -- and that you are well.

Regards,

It’s been 12 years since I installed our HAI/OnQ HMS1050 system. Recently the main board had a problem with seizing the phone line and HAI said it sounded like a board problem so I bought a new (used) replacement.

Prior to installing the new board I verified that the PC could communicate with the old board by starting PC-access and connecting locally. Web-Link also worked with the old board.

Now the replacement board is installed but I have been unable to connect to it with PC-Access so the programming can be downloaded. I have double checked that the serial port is connected the same as the old system (sort of hard to screw up).

The board was reset to factory defaults before purchase so it should be like bringing up a new board.

Installer and user codes have been entered into the system via security console and PC-Access is enabled.

I have tried all available baud rates (was 9600 on the old board which I think is the default) but the behavior is always that the “connecting” pop-up is displayed for a few seconds, then clears, but the icon in the lower-right continues saying “OFF LINE” when it should toggle to “ON LINE” and the menu functions that are usually enabled after a connection is established are still greyed out.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Ken Schumm
