Bruce, and all,
I know this reply to this thread is a bit delayed, but just got the 
hot tub going again here in Madison, WI and did use this suggestion.

My goal was to display hot tub temp on the 2line display. I just 
brute-forced it and blew about 10 messages and hard coded the show 
and clear for each temperature degree from 90 to 101F. If tub is 
below 90, I just display "Tub Temp Below 90F" and similar for above 
102, but inbetween I just display corresponding temperature.

Thanks for the idea. it does work fine, though I sure wish for some 
variable message placement function. I guess that is why I have 
homeseer running, and sendiing that info to an iphone screen.
