[Hai-users] Omni Pro II Ethernet port weirdness

I don't want to hawk this string, but, along the same lines, I'm still
suffering from a problem where, whenever I plug my OmniPro II into my home
network hub, it 1) begins to loose time, 2) emits 6 beeps, give or take,
randomly from the control panels and 3) screws up zwave commands to my
lights and outlets. I believe HAI and I tried everything we could think of
as far as testing, and then I was left to locate a local installer to try to
diagnose further. I just haven't had the time to find one; and, I'd need to
find one that actually knows something about this kind of problem, rather
than paying for hours and hours of education and random testing. Is there
anything new, or has anyone else reported a similar problem? Everything
works fine until I plug in the Ethernet connection to our house network
(whether or not PCAccess is running).

As long as all of the facts are accurate it sounds to me like a flaky
component, bad soldier joint or a bad connection at the Ethernet port. The
only thing on that list that are within your control is the Ethernet port
connection. By any chance is it a connection using an EZ RJ-45? If so,
make certain the wire cuts are clean and there is no potential for shorts.
As well, make certain the plug is in until you hear it click. I sometimes
have to bend the clip up before inserting to make certain it clicks. If it
is a standard RJ-45 jack and you made it, make certain the wires are all of
the way to the top of the jack. If it is a store bought cable, try swapping
it. With the jack out, make certain all 8 pins are in their respective
'gates'. It is rare but they can hop and have 2 pins short in a single
gate. Anything beyond that may be at the board level.

Subject: [Hai-users] Omni Pro II Ethernet port wierdness

Omni Pro II installed approx 9 years ago. Worked good all that time.

Last June one day I could not connect to the Ethernet port. WebLink II would
not connect either.

I emailed Hai support. We tried a variety of things.

Reset system, power cycled system Reset Rom, tried to ping it nothing was
successful.

Tried connecting directly with a crossover ethernet cable with my laptop. No
success.

Serial connection worked fine, and everything else seemed to be working
fine.

double checked the IP address, and security key. All ok.

Nothing with the Omni or network had been changed in months.

ACT light on Omni board was blinking like everything was working normally.

After several days of back and forth testing, Hai support determined board
needed to be sent in and serviced.

I couldn't afford the repair at the time, so I just lived with it as it was.

Fast forward to yesterday Oct 6th.

WebLink II runs on my home server that also run's some other things I use
24/7 365. That server does get rebooted once every couple of weeks.

I did one of those random reboots of the server yesterday. And later in the
day I received a surprise email from Weblink II about an event. The Ethernet
port on the OMNI was now working once again. I've changed absolutely nothing
since it stop working.

The Omni now seems to be completely back to normal operation of the Ethernet
port.

How could this be after four months??

I'm hoping Tom at Worthington or Scott at HAI will take the time to comment
on this and how it may be avoided in the future.

Thank you.
