[Hai-users] RE: HAI-users Digest, Vol 54, Issue 9

Thanks Guys. I have an update with some corrected information from my wife
(and from me).
1.	This has been happening for 4-8 weeks and we can't remember an event
at the time.
2.	We don't have any serious electrical problems in this area (Gilbert,
AZ - Phoenix) from storms i.e. we rarely even have to reset a breaker, but
certainly not the breaker that our OminPro II board is on.
3.	Only one of our two consoles show the error and makes the beeping
when it happens. In fact, it just started again while I'm typing this. The
other console shows "System OK". I have located the instructions for
testing a console, and will run them after hitting the send button here.
Also, the beeping stopped on its own just now and the console said "Setup,
Code XXX". I hit cancel and it went back to normal.
4.	We think it happens even when the system is not armed.
5.	We happen to have a new Controller chip, ver. 3.2B that we haven't
installed yet (we asked HAI for it when we had just upgraded to 3.?, and
they came out with this new version the very next day.
6.	I'm a high end computer end-user, and not an installer of OmniPro
IIs, but probably capable of following instructions (had to help the
installer with the last chip upgrade.
7.	Would love to have an Ethernet upgradable board, but, paying full
bore for a new board when we had a functioning one never made economical
sense.
8.	We have PCAccess - Dealer version for controlling, etc., from this
computer. No events show for when this is happening.
9.	If it is only the console, what ne console would you recommend?
10.	The system has been installed (originally with an Aegis 3000 board)
for 7.5 years.

Appreciate your help and guidance much, much, much.

Brad

On an OmniPro II we're getting repeated beeping from the console at odd
hours. The message says "nocontrollerdata00". We cancel twice and it goes
away; but, then come back the next time the unit is put in night mode (not
right away, but usually in the wee hours of the morning). What is this?

It could be lots of things, but I'd start by checking for loose wiring or
connections. It also makes a huge difference whether this is a new
installation, or the system's been working for a while and this problem only
recently started.

In addition to a loose wire or connection, other possible causes are failing
hardware (panel, keypad, or other peripherals), or even something in
programming.

Ditto to what Tony said. The 'No controller Data' is something an installer
hates to see. It's basically a message indicating the controller has lost
communications - perhaps with the console bus or other loose wiring or a
wiring short.

Think back to when this issue started to happen, and then determine if an
event (a storm, renovations, or something) may have contributed to this
problem. Timing is everything. If nothing comes to mind, then it sounds like
your main controller is failing.

Sometimes these are very hard to figure out.

We have a door onto our deck that has magnetic contacts to our HAI
controller. Once very 100 times or so when that door is closed the keypads
beep and give the no controller data error for a few seconds, then it clears
itself. Other than that one door it never happens.

Probably a problem with the controller board but it's so intermittent they'd
probably never be able to find and repair it.

At least our deck door stays shut in the wee hours.

Not much help, sorry, but you do have my sympathies.

Ken
