[Hai-users] Random System Resets. Please Help

There are things in the program that could cause a system to reboot. If you
haven't already gone through it, that's worth a look.

I once had a system (OP II) with some fairly complex lighting programming,
and one of the lines was something like "When Unit 37 On, Unit 37 On for 60
seconds". Anytime Unit 37 was turned on, the panel would get slower and
slower, and eventually lock-up.

That's all I can think of, at the moment...

Subject: [Hai-users] Random System Resets. Please Help

I had written about this a while back. Got some good suggestions but

still having trouble.

System:

HMS 1100 (OP II) version 2.8

3 expansion enclosures and one 16 zone exp. board

multiple outputs to relays

Serial connection to Lutron HWI

Serial to Crestron

TCP to PC Access, Weblink

Audio board

Added surge protectors a while back---before all of these problems

Problem:

Several distinct symptoms. Sometimes they happen together but other

times in isolation without obvious precipitating cause.

1) System Reset. Shows in the event log

2) Loses communication with Crestron (Omnilink protocol). The inbound

data LED is seeing the Crestron data but it stops sending data back to

Crestron. Reboot (reset RAM) fixes temporarily

3) Sometimes, usually after one of the reset events, it loses the voice

messages. Says "message 67" rather than "front door open"....

4) Had recurrent "fuse trouble" events--related to solid state fuse

We replaced the motherboard (a few times). Interestingly the first new

board was really messed up. It had an un-resettable solid state fuse

trouble AND would not recognize the 16z expansion board. During the week

that was in place we had NO resets or loss of Crestron comm's.

During troubleshooting found a smoke alarm relay that, when connected,

caused the fuse trouble and when d/c'd was OK. Got rid of that relay and

installed another new motherboard.

No fuse prob's but still had system reset, loss of voice and loss of comm's.

Replaced ALL power supplies to the system.

Had system reset and loss of comm's. No loss of voices (yet, only been

12 hours since replaced power).

Where else can we look to troubleshoot? Anybody see anything like this

before?

Thanks!!!!

Bruce
