And some software modems are just simply pure crap. The only solution is to
replace it with a modem that has a lucent chip on it. Usually less than
$15.00 at your local "geek" computer store.

Subject: [Hai-users] Aegis 2000 - PC Access/Modem

I am having difficulties configuring a customers new computer for PC Access
and local modem access. I can connect consistently, but when trying to
upload from the controller, I continually receive retry - invalid crc or
invalid start.

Modem: AOpenFM56-SVV Soft PCI Modem
Error correction is disabled; data compression is disabled; hardware or no
flow control

Aegis firmware is version 1.7f

My laptop connects and communicates without fail. I had heard about some
problems with "software" modems, but I must admit that since ethernet and
broadband Internet, I have zero knowledge of modems.
