I seem to remember a guard at Maryland a few years back, who had miserable SAT's and even
worse grades at one of the inner city schools in Baltimore (or in that area).
He took a Kaplan course and raised his SAT over 1,000, so high that the school didn't
believe the score, but then coach Gary Williams prevailed and the kid came in and played
guard for Maryland for 4 years. Pretty sure he graduated, and runs youth programs in
Baltimore now.
My point?
Some of these athletes who don't seem to have much on the ball, actually do. Maybe a test
taking class and a redo on the ACT is in order?
And I recommend that course of action to every high school kid I meet who is having
trouble getting into the college of their choice because of grades.
