There are few guarantees in life, but one of them is this:  No matter
how much manure is thrown around during deal-making, Notre Dame 
always comes out smelling like a rose.  

Or did it escape everyone's notice that Notre Dame had a seat at the
table making them the equal of any of the Conference Commissioners?
How many other 'independents' were represented?  

Any one of those conference commissioners would sell his grandmother 
to get Notre Dame as a conference member in football, including Jim D.
