List Gang,

   My son is between his Junior and Senior year at Robert Morris U., outside Pittsburgh.   RMU has a short 3 week winter break for the holidays, but he's done by the last Friday in April.  And its made it a snap to land work for the summer.  So I agree it would benefit kids who need work in the summer. And judging by the amount of tuition I pay for RMU, every cent helps.
   02:  He recorded straight A's as a 2nd semester Junior, and has an internship lined up with Rivals.com, helping out with RMU's site at colonialscorner.com.  Hence, I'm quite proud of him.  He's also a big Cat fan and very knowledgeable of our football and basketball teams; a perfect example of a generation who believes the Cats have decent football and basketball teams and shouldn't be judged by their futility in the past.

Boy do I agree with Scott about the dis advantage of obtaining a  summer job.  
hey were all taken by mid June.   However I'm told it's very hard to make the 
witch. Professors need to change their courses to gear for 18 weeks vs 12. It 
ight be easy for a year of physics or calculus but not for a one quarter 
ourse.   Their calender of actually teaching classes changes and would likely 
eed their approval (or union). 
here are a bunch of other issues that need to be dealt with.  Obviously schools 
o it, but not without a bunch of dislocations (By the way,my dad ,who was an 
SU grad in the 30's and a Chemistry major,used to tell me how much harder he 
hought the quarter system was,but that it instilled good academic discipline)

Would NU ever consider changing from the quarter system? I remember it
eing a drag getting out so late in the year that all the good summer jobs
ere long gone, and then being home alone for a few weeks at the end of
ummer when all my friends were already back at their own schools.
