[NU Sports] omens Lacrosse Bracket out

Echoing Amonte Hiller's comments in the Trib post game.

Did not see the game, but it sounded like Florida continued the same kind of collapsing
defense they had a few weeks ago.

NU did figure out Maryland after being humbled by them in the NCAA finals. It sounds like
the girls from Florida really want to win the NCAA's - if they do win it, doing it in 3
years beats the Cats record for the fastest start (4 years to a national title) in Women's
Lacrosse.

But in NUY's Lacrosse history, two of the National Titles have come over the team that
knocked them out of the previous year's tournament. The first was Virginia, who had
stopped the Cats first ever run to the title in the quarterfinals. The second team was
Maryland, who beat the Cats by 2 points in the final game in 2010, but lost to NU the
following year by 1.

I'm sure the ladies are watching a lot of video, looking for holes, while Florida needs to
get to the title game without becoming overconfident. Should be a good tournament.

Something of a relief to get a #2 bid after being totally outplayed for the first time
since pre-2005, but it's probably deserved.

NU completely dominated Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago, so I'm fairly optimistic about
the Cats chances there, particularly with KAH having a week to retool. The Duke or
Virginia matchup wouldn't be a gimme, but the Cats should be the better team in either
case, and handled both teams fairly easily.

Maryland would be a stout challenge to be sure. If they get by that, the title game would
be really interesting. I believe Syracuse already beat Florida once this year, and the
Cats squeeked by them in OT. But, like the Cats, they had a bad day in their final
conference tournament game. If Florida gets by 'cuse, well, the flat-out look to be a
slightly better team than NU. But can anyone beat the Cats three times in one year? Hard
to say.

NU certainly didn't play anywhere near their best game on Saturday, but they really had
trouble stopping Florida's drives to the goal, and had almost no success generating any
offense themselves--a trend that continued from the first meeting. That disadvantage could
be overcome with winning more possessions, but they just got *crushed* on draw controls.
That's probably the first thing they need to fix.

Tom
