[NU Sports] Stony Brook

The University of Minnesota's new president, Eric Kaler, was president
of Stony Brook before being hired to run the U.  A lot of alumni liked
that he embraced, supported, and helped establish a successful athletics
program there.  There was much speculation in the last month or two
suggesting that Stony Brook's AD would be hired to replace Joel Maturi
at the U of M, before it was announced a week or so ago that Maturi's
successor (beginning July 1st and pending Board of Regents approval)
will be Norwood Teague, currently the AD at VCU.  This of course, leads
to Gopher fans' hope and speculation that Minnesota might have a good
shot at hiring Shaka Smart when Tubby hangs up his spurs....  -Joe
