[NU Sports] BC apparently staying

Worth noting: it's clear Carmody is not getting an extension out of this
(his current deal runs through next season). That is a clear message that
he has to get it done now (since usually head coaches like to have at least
another season on the end of their contracts for recruiting purposes - to
prove they'll be around).

NU last fired a head men's basketball coach in 1997 (Ricky Byrdsong, who
had 1 year left on his deal). NU football hasn't fired a coach (with time
remaining on the contract) in over 30 years (Venturi, I believe/assume -
can't find much detail on it, though. Subsequently: Green left on his own,
Peay's contract expired, Barnett left, and Walker passed).

I'm glad there will be a clear goal with consequences next season, although
I still think it's taken way too long to get to that point.

Jonathan
