[NU Sports] Greenstein: sources say Chris Collins would take NU job, if open; 1 says he prefers it over Illinois

Because its been a few days since the season ended and no firm announcement has been made in keeping BC, I assume Phillips is talking to a select number of coaches which includes Collins. He knows as every day passes it shrinks BC's credibility, and threatens his committments of (3) talented players.
I'm on record (at the beginning of conference play when we stumbled to a 1-3 start) of saying that if our team didn't tank it and had good recruits lined up, we should keep BC. As it turned out, the team came within (1) f@#$%ing game of getting to the tournement, and BC has an outstanding trio of incoming recruits as well as Turner and Demps who were red-shirted. Carmody deserves one more chance which includes: admitting kids who either have all A's and average/slightly above average SAT's, or B's and high SATs, and a committment to improving facilities.
As most of you know I'm not an alum. I'm happy to have my piece of paper from little 'ole York College (Pa.). Northwestern's committment to excellence is why I've been a fan for 33 years (ouch!), but one thing I know is that we can't expect to hold Carmody to an Ivy League standard when all other "like" schools in the power conferences (Duke, Stanford, Vandy, etc.) don't. If we let a deserving kid in with all A's and average SAT's, how would this be a disservice? If were not 12th in the conference in facilities, maybe we get a guy who we might otherwise wouldn't get.

BTW: I'm tired off posters busting on PSU stating that the Bryce-Jordan Center hasn't helped; that facilities upgrades don't help. By my calculations, they've been to the NCAA tournement 4 times since the stadium's been built.

As usual, I haven't posted in ages and when I do its a mile long. Truthfully, I was so hurt by losing to Minnesota I wanted to get in the fetal position and cry, so I didn't post for awile. But life goes on, and as Dennis and I can attest, we can take punishment more than most being Phillies and Eagle fans.

I say keep BC. Lety him finish what he started.

GO CATS!! Eric

As far as I can see, the only potential negative on Collins is lack of Head
oaching experience. His pedigree is impeccable, and I would thinkhis father's
igh profile and connections throughout the NBA would have to be of some real
alue in recruiting. Collins will not end up at Illinois, as the pressure to
inally hire a head coach of color is probably paramount in their AD's calculus,
s reported in today's Trib.
If we make a move, and I remain very conflicted in my own thought process, I
hink Collins would be a sensational choice. I like the idea of teaming him
ith Fitz -- as the young, photogenic, well-educated, passionate and articulate
aces of NU and it's athletic program -- along with Kelly Amonte Hiller, of
ourse. I also would like to move away from the Princeton offense and the 1-3-1
efense to see a more eclectic approach at both ends of the court.
