Not sure if many out there have been following the 50 percent rule that the NCAA is attempting to phase in. But it will DQ schools from going to the dance if their hoopsters are not on track for a 50 percent graduation rate

Right away, one has to figure that will improve our chances to get invited to the dance if a bunch of schools get knocked out and thus providing less competition . Some schools may actually be tougher on admitting certain kids if they believe they could jeopardize their chances at passing the 50 percent test. This may allow a school like NU to better compete with those teams, when in the past, all we could hope for was an occasional upset against them

It used to be when Al Mcguire (Marquette) or Jerry Tarkanian (UNLV) would grab several kids a year off the streets in the hope of getting them through a year or 2 before dropping or flunking out. Both won national titles with extremely low graduation rates
