[NU Sports] All that talk p.o.'d the selection committee

Personally -- I think we got what we deserved.

If we had beaten Minnesota, this might have all been moot.

Woulda coulda shoulda etc.

Everyone will recall I had said a few posts back that we were not going to
win the NIT. I bring this up again not out of any sense of "I told you so."
It was just obvious.

We had weaknesses that were glaringly evident. Hard to acknowledge but
let's face facts. We couldn't rebound. We often couldn't shoot the front
end of 1-and-1s and, as I pointed out in an off-the-list note tonight to a
list friend, the last I looked, you win basketball games by scoring points.
Our lack of height was a defensive liability to the max. Our lack of depth
was brutal.

An athletic team like Washington -- which you can see by the way they turn
the ball over is still a year away from making the NCAA -- naturally proved
a deadly match-up for this edition of the Northwestern men's basketball
team.

I feel badly for Shurna. Arguably the best player in NU basketball history
and he didn't get to go to the tournament. That is a major disappointment.

I have said before that I believe Carmody must go. We need new energy and
new direction.

If Jim Phillips believes Carmody stays, I absolutely will continue to
support the coach and the program. But -- I believe Bill has had his turn
to show what he can do, and taken the program as far as he can take it.
It's time for someone new.
