You have to be naïve to think the educational system is not at fault. One would also be naïve to think the educational system is the only reason
Any system that allocates better educational resources (and I'm not just referring to money,-but for example better teachers) to the more affluent areas and disproportionately less African American, is partly to blame. Then again the educational system can only do so much when dealt a bad hand to begin with
While the above is political, one can also note that a disproportionate number of revenue producing college athletes (ie football and basketball) are African American. Thus the failure to get these kids educational resources in line with those that tend to come from better school districts is a key source of the problem of academic eligibility ; it is not the only source. (Whether eligibility means under NCAA rules or eligible for recruitment at NU )
