I'm afraid your proposal doesn't work if we have 35 bowl games. (It theoratically could mathematically, but unlikely). There just wouldn't be enough eligible teams under most scenarios.
Too many bowl games is clearly the real culprit. And there is no bowl czar to limit them So long as someone figures they can make money from one, they will keep the current ones and possibly look for more. The SI article on bowl games (vs a playoff ) says it all. The bowl heads get paid very well, get to play golf while schoomzing, and garner prestige in the local community. (Anybody interested in starting one with me ?!)

Fitz used that phrase in the context of the suggestion (not that I've heard there's been one) that a 5-win team be given a waiver to be in a bowl game. The real question that has affected NU in the past has been getting to a bowl game with six wins. Fitz seemed to be in favor of that; he pointed out that we had an entertaining game this past season with two 6-6 teams.
Personally, as much as I want NU to be in a bowl game every year, I think that .500 teams going to bowl games is a joke. Everyone knows there are way too many bowl games. I think the proposal that a team must win at least 7 games to go bowling is a good thing.

Nice article, but the Fitz video was even better. It's been a long time since I've heard the phrase "tough noogies".

In the final analysis, it will be Cobb and Hearn that push the Cats over the top in the BT
Tourney and beyond. (IMHO)
