While we're at it, why not an all-time Cat basketball team?

Center - Evan Eschmeyer

Guard (shooting) - Billy McKinney

Guard (point) - Juice Thompson

Forward (power) - Don Adams

Forward (shooting) - John Shurna

Bench (guard) - Terry Gambert, Jim Burns

Bench (forward) - Tim Doyle, Vedran Vukusic

Bench (center) - Kyle Rowley (OK, I'm joking. Face it. Other than Esch, we've never had a good center)

Coach: Morice Fredrick Winter (and even he wasn't very successful at NU)

Eschmeyer and McKinney are no-brainers, but some of you may be asking, "Don and Terry who?" For you youngsters, Adams was a 6' 6" wi-i-i-ide-body from the late '60s who spent a number of years as an NBA journeyman thanks to his rebounding and defensive skills. He remains the only true power forward in my memory to ever play for Northwestern and may be the school's best pure rebounder of all time. He didn't score much, but he kept the other team from scoring, especially on put-backs. Could we ever use him now! Gambert, now a judge, was a slick ball-handler and adroit passer from the same era and could shoot as well. Jim Burns likewise was from that same era, an all-Big 10 selection at guard his senior year and enjoyed a cup or two of coffee in the NBA and the old ABA. (He is now an Illinois state's attorney and ran for governor in the 90s. You know he lost because he's not in jail.) There should be a guy named Coble on this roster, but he went from hero for how he treated his mother to the defecation list for deserting his team mates and blowing the opportunity for a free master's degree.
