[NU Sports] Something to argue over

Not slanted. I just don't believe you could pick up old time players and plunk them down in the modern era and expect them to play well. Overall they were smaller, slower, did not have the latest physical training techniques available, and spent less of each year training and preparing for the game.

Kind of slanted towards the last 15 years, don't you think?
Personally, as great and accurate as Persa was, I wouldn't put him as the best, because he really wasn't a winner. I don't think of him as the guy who would win the game for us in the last quarter -- like Zak Kustok did so many times. Did Persa even have a winning overall record as a starter? If so, it must be just barely.

Tough to leave Otto off in spite of old timer reasons. The best pro in my mind was Tasker. Some have considered him the greatest special team player of all time

The center and free safety positions gave me the most trouble. Let's face it. We haven't had many outstanding players at either position. Wide receiver gave me trouble because we've had a number of worthy candidates over the years such as Flatley, Gissendaner, Buchanan, Simmons, Lane, and Brewer. I deliberately avoided calling on older players because they played in a different era and were smaller. Jack Rudnay was the exception because he was the one NU center I could recall who was considered outstanding. By the way, there is a heart breaking article on Rudnay at http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=230223.
