[NU Sports] Same old same old from basketball

Hey Brad! No way a lousy girls team shoots 3-8 from the FT line. As an ex-coach of my daughter's rec league team that went 1-9, we averaged 50%! So, Mister, take that rude comment back. In fact, my daughter scored 7 points all season, was 1-2 from the free throw stripe.

Cheez Brad, I've rarely read a post that was more correct. A win followed by too many brain-numbing losses.

I will try to explain, but even I have to take my words with a grain of salt.

I knew this season got tougher when it was known that Jershon Cobb was having issues. I figured he'd pick up some of the slack left by Juice's departure. He's an athletic game-changer, even as "the 6th man". Injuries to Marcotullio and Tre Demps haven't helped. Mirk's regression has been a disappointment, as well as Fruendt's inability to reward Carmody's attempt to give him meaningful minutes.

With that said, we started 2-4 when I thought we needed 3-3. The next 5, I felt we needed to go 3-2. I still think if we can get to 5-6 in conference, we'll have a chance. Obviously, a loss to Minnesota means a must win against Purdue. Not many people were expecting a win against Michigan St., so there is hope. A loss vs. Purdue means we need to win as many games as possible and qualify for the NIT.

As far as next year, losing Shurna won't help, but Demps and red-shirt Turner with Curletti, Hearn, Crawford and Sobe leaves the cupboard far from bare. We also have a tranfer from TCU at center, but one must wonder how much a tranfer from TCU will help; our tranfers in the past have been duds.

If we don't make the NCAA's, I'm hoping his future will be determined by who he's bringing in, or not bringing in. His new assistant Fred Hill has ties to New York, New Jersey and Philly. Tavaras Hardy has landed players from Chicagoland; Turner and Sobe come to mind. If we have good recruits coming in (hopefully a center) and make the NIT, then I will say the unpopular thing: extend BC's contract. The thing I can't get out of my head is the injuries to the players I figured would help us.

But we have to show up between now and the end of February. If we lay down, BC's contract shouldn't be extended. Let's see what happens bewteen now and the end of the season.

  GO CATS!!! Eric

Why does anybody expect any different? Years and years of the same nonsense. The
ccasional nice win followed brutal losses, usually on the road. No consistency
t all, no ability to rally on the road.
I am not surprised at the ineptitude, I am just surprised that anybody is
urprised.
Good teams do what Wisconsin did today -- find a way to rally in the second half
nd win a road game over a ranked foe (Illinois).
Bad teams do what NU is doing now. 3-for-8 from the line? Bad high school girls
eams would do better.
