The earlier reports did not identify the type of lung cancer he had,
just that it was treatable, now they are saying it was small cell
carcinoma.
That's the fastest growing form, one of the least treatable, and one
that is very likely to spread. (And almost always attributable to smoking.)
Had he been diagnosed a year or more ago, it might have been more treatable.
I've lost two relatives (both smokers) to lung cancer, one died less than
a month after her condition was first discovered, by which time it had
already spread to her brain.
I suspect Joe's cancer had already spread by the time it was diagnosed,
too.
This is not a day to be righteous or joyous, just sad.
