I remember Ron Powlus, the kid Beano Cook predicted would win
two Heismans at Notre Dame.

Personally, I'm willing to cut the kids a bit of slack,
probably more than some of them are willing to cut 
the schools they eventually sign with.  

These kids are under pressure and scruting that few of have us
ever had to deal with, at that age or since, and are touted by 
all sorts of 'experts' and told that they will be the second coming 
of 'fill in your favorite great player here'.

Then they show up on campus where they may quickly learn that 
they're not that great or important anymore.  

I stll recall Joe Montana saying that when he showed up
for his first practice at Notre Dame, he was something
like 14th on the QB depth chart.  (I wonder if any
of the 13 players above him made it to Canton?)
