[NU Sports] I waited a day to be a downer...

While I will admit I didn't do any research, I have never heard that there are any minimum/maximum wins ,losses that automatically qualify you or disqualify you from being selected for the tournament. Of course you can have zero victories during the regular season but win your conference tournament and get an automatic bid, but even excluding that exception,I don't think there are automatic ins or outs. Assuming my guess is accurate then we need to look at realistically what will get us in or not. I think 20 wins puts us on the bubble. A few big upsets, particularly late in the season would be a stronger 20 wins, than getting 20 wins by just beating lesser teams and having a few upsets in January. I also would speculate that the committee would love to give us a break if we are close. It would not only be an extra storyline about our maiden voyage, but might also help the TV draw with a team in the 3rd largest market. Throw in a few extra teams this year, and it is ours to lose.

The big question is was the MSU win just a lucky win(something akin to my post about our 1979 upset of MSU-even though the differences in talent in the 2 games doesn't really compare ) or was the win more indicative of who we are ?

With our recent close losses and the win over MSU, I want to be optimistic, but I fear Dennis' complaint is not only real, but spot on to our key problem. Time will tell.

All,

We are currently 12-5 (2-3). Is there any drop-dead number of losses that we must avoid to have any hope ? Football is so much easier - just get to 6 wins any way that you can...

Thanks,

It's precisely the reverse -- 27 -- in Philadelphia. Maybe that explains the
difference in our outlook... (smile)

Such poetry to enliven our basketball musings or, perhaps, travails.

I shall now return to Kafka. (Not Mike.)

Oh, wait. It's SoCal and 72 degrees in January. Hope springs eternal
here in mid-winter and Davide Curletti is the answer. Maybe.
