[NU Sports] Michigan gets lucky

I was watching at that point and 1. Couldn't believe that he didn't kick it, and 2. That they overturned the TD. It sure looked good to me and Kathryn, altho you could say he bobbled it a little going out of bounds. I thought I saw the ball bounce off his right hand as he pulled it in as he was going over the line, dragging his right foot.

Had the pass been a foot to the right, he'd have scored easily with no argument, so it's probably on the QB. However, Coale must think he's snake bit to have two crazy plays go bad inside of a few minutes.

Thanks very much for the clarification. Given how well VT's defense was holding UM, seemed it should've been a sure punt.

Regardless of the ruling in OT, that was an incredible effort by Coale - almost an amazing catch.

P.S. Very big men's hoops game for NU vs Illini tonight - Cats favored by 2-1/2 points, according to morning paper. And one team that NU beat, Seton Hall, had a nice victory at home over UConn last night.

Beamer gave his punter, Danny Coale, the option of kicking or running. Coale took responsbility for the whole thing.

“I thought I saw an opening with the defensive end coming up the field,” Coale said. “But it closed pretty quickly. That’s my fault.”

Coale was also the guy who caught the pass in the end zone in overtime that was overturned on review.

Yeah - VT's coach made his own BAD luck with the unfathomable fake punt decision. :)

Bleacherreport.com says "The Michigan Wolverines are back! . . . Brady Hoke has
proven that the right coaching staff can make all of the difference."

Michigan may well be "back" and Brady Hoke may be their savior, but they won the
Sugar Bowl thanks to Dame Fortune smiling on several passes that should have
been picked and Virginia Tech's coach Frank Beamer's really stupid decision to
try a fake punt at midfield. His play calling was ultra conservative too,
especially in Tech's final drive. A win is a win, but the Big Ten shouldn't
crow over this one too loudly. Two victories by gnat's eyelashes in overtime do
not a powerful conference make.
