[NU Sports] Michigan gets lucky

Beamer gave his punter, Danny Coale, the option of kicking or running. Coale took responsbility for the whole thing.

"I thought I saw an opening with the defensive end coming up the field," Coale said. "But it closed pretty quickly. That's my fault."

Coale was also the guy who caught the pass in the end zone in overtime that was overturned on review.

Yeah - VT's coach made his own BAD luck with the unfathomable fake punt decision. :)

Bleacherreport.com says "The Michigan Wolverines are back! . . . Brady Hoke has
proven that the right coaching staff can make all of the difference."

Michigan may well be "back" and Brady Hoke may be their savior, but they won the
Sugar Bowl thanks to Dame Fortune smiling on several passes that should have
been picked and Virginia Tech's coach Frank Beamer's really stupid decision to
try a fake punt at midfield. His play calling was ultra conservative too,
especially in Tech's final drive. A win is a win, but the Big Ten shouldn't
crow over this one too loudly. Two victories by gnat's eyelashes in overtime do
not a powerful conference make.
