[NU Sports] The iowa game is the key

If nothing else, the hoops history of futility (such as no winning B1G seasons since 1968 and only one since the year of my birth, 1960) have taught me that the cliches of "taking it one game at a time" and "statistics are for losers" are wholly applicable to Cats fans' lot in life. I have to leave to others any notions at any point in a season of chalking up wins in advance, looking past an opponent or counting on a tournament berth.

But maybe, just maybe, the unaccustomed great fortune in the unlikely ending at Penn State (two missed PSU FTs with :14 left and two made NU FTs after a foul on a double team with :2.6 left) will carry over...
If, after all of this year's heartbreakers, the Cats can somehow pull off three straight wins (stun ranked OSU, defeat Hawkeyes @ Iowa on senior day and take the B1G tourney opener) to reach 20 Ws and have their first Big Ten winning streak of four games in forever, THAT would be a helluva noteworthy accomplishment and ensure a first berth in the NCAAs.

Just violated what I said at the top. Yes, a Cat's got to dream, but it's hazardous to an NU fan's health to ever look ahead. :)

NU has to win that one. Beating OSU and then losing to Iowa would be a disaster and negate the OSU win.

Have to beat Iowa. Really nothing else matters if NU doesn't beat the Hawkeyes. And based on the last road performance .... uhhhhh ....

I am not as optimistic as many of you are. It's NU hoops. They'll find a way, if a way can be found ... to folly.

That said, go 'Cats!!!
