And, of course, the biggest difference: if Ohio State had beaten Michigan in 1995 to keep NU from the Rose Bowl, no one would have called for Gary Barnett to be fired. ;)

Yes a berth would be a cause for celebration. If it is second to the Rose Bowl it would be a distant second Going undefeated in the BT when there were prior years of the losing streak and when getting a first down evoked mock cheers of "Rose Bowl", was incredible. Not to mention, not just a bowl game but THE Bowl game and going in as the #3 team in the nation. It will be hard to surpass that as an NU fan

I have to make one observation here. I don't think, in all my years on the List, that I have ever seen such a continuous "conversation" about basketball. Yes, we have had our moments, but generally, it is football that consumes most of us and generates the most "buzz" on the List.

However, being on the "cusp of history", has brought out the analyses--big-time--as we fret and speculate about the possibilty of our beloved 'Cats entering the Promised Land after 70 years of wandering in the desert. It's a beautiful thing, and if somehow we can communally celebrate on Selection Sunday, it would be amazing. I can't put out of my mind the vision of our team, Coach Carmody and about 4,000 or so students rejoicing at Welsh-Ryan after NU's putative "bid" is confirmed and our "bracket" is posted, while the "Talking Heads" at CBS and ESPN ruminate on NU's historic journey. It will--at least for me--be a moment unlike any other, except when we made the Rose Bowl.

I know I shouldn't even utter these words out loud, let alone post them here--but I just can't help myself. It's too exciting a prospect to cast aside.

Our time is now. So seize the moment, Mr. Carmody, Mr. Shurna, Mr. Crawford, Mr. Sobolewski, Mr. Hearn, Mr. Marcotullio, Mr. Cobb, Mr. Corletti and crew--and join Mr. Barnett, Mr. Fitzgerald, Mr. Autry, Mr. Schnur and their teammates in the Pantheon of 'Cat fame and accomplishment.

Go 'Cats!

Oh, for sure we can count on Luka to deliver the fouls :)
Rooting big-time for the Cats. I am a lifer. Both parents are NU
rads. I *only* have 36 years of direct personal involvement in
o-Tourney basketball -- started as a Medill freshman in 1976.
Bring on the big, bad Buckeyes!

On another note, is there any update on whether Luka will play at least a few
inutes in the Big Ten tourney? We could use a few extra minutes and fouls down
