I know they've played the last couple of NCAA Women's Lacrosse Finals in some big stadiums
-

But even the championships in Baltimore - one of the national hotbeds of the sport - draw
less than half the capacity of the places the games are played.

Last year 8,011 turned out for the final out in Stony Brook, NY
9,782 for the 2010 Final in Towson MD,
And 6,515 showed up for 2009 at the same location.
They didn't show any attendance for 2008, or 2007.
2006 up in Boston attendance was 5,684.

And this was for a championship game. The opening round game in 2011 between Maryland and
Navy at College Park (two local teams in the hotbed of Mid Atlantic LaCrosse) drew 646
fans.

Should more people come to the NU Women's Games? Yeah, sure, but right now even the teams
in places known for Lacrosse don't draw big numbers.

You'd love to see a couple of thousand fans in the stands on the lakeshore for an NU
Lacrosse game, but we don't even fill Welsh-Ryan for Basketball with our own fans.

However, I disagree with the author's rather negative assessment of fan support of the Lax
team. It's all relative, of course. But at a school where we have trouble getting 30,000
fans (and 4,000 students) for football, getting 1,000 or more (including hundreds of
students) out to a Lax game is pretty impressive.
