BHGP is always fun to read after an NU win!

I was at the game last night, and boy, was that fun to watch. One of the best performances by a Cat b-ball team in a long time, against admittedly inferior competition. Mid-way through the second half, Iowa just looked completely lost on both ends of the floor. And NU was playing hard, really hard. Great enthusiasm everywhere.

I was exchanging texts with a friend during the early going of the Nebraska game last week, lamenting the fact that Sobo was doing everything right except making shots. I said those shots would start falling eventually, but I was thinking more along the lines of next year.

It was right about then that he finally put one away against the Huskers, and he hasn't stopped since.

The fact that he's draining 3s is huge for our offense, but I think the real difference is layups--he couldn't get those to fall for most of the Big 10 season, and looked tentative anytime he got in close. Last night, Sobo just took it hard to the basket and finished strong. Granted, Iowa is a small team, and played some crappy defense, but this was a noticeable change in approach. There were a lot of other plays where he pushed the ball hard up the court, and many of those finished with really nice passes--often for a nifty layup by a teammate. That aggressiveness really made a difference.

He won't fare as well against, say, OSU, but the strides this kid is making already will pay huge dividends down the road.

Put that together with Reggie Hearn's emergence as a legitimate scorer, able to hit from outside, post-up, and drive to the hoop, and suddenly we've got an entirely different offense.

Fun stuff.

Tom
