[NU Sports] Bielema Calls Out Meyer on Recruiting Tactics

Surprisingly, Alvarez didn't seem to go along with this view, saying, "It's open
season until they sign".
Unfortunately, some of the coaches will continue to respect each other, while
others will play as close to the line as they are allowed. Will be interesting
to see who falls on which side.

ESPN had a follow up stating the coaches (through Pat Fitz as the spokesperson)
do not have an unwritten agreement not to poach, but will "respect " each other

Wow ... this is a tough one. On one hand, you have the Smug Smirk of Cheddarland
whining (and given his benefitting last year from a redshirt transfer, I dunno
if he should throw too many stones) ... and on the other hand, you have St.
Urban of Sanctimonious Pomposity helping dOSU truly reach their potential of
becoming an "SEC school in Big Ten clothing."
No sympathy for either of those guys ... the interesting person to watch is Papa
Barry -- who could use his AD clout to throw down some rules in the Big Ten to
make sure this doesn't spread.
Should add some spice to the UW/OSU rivalry - one of the more underrated ones of
the past two decades with some big-time games between the two.
BTW, I tend to look at OSU's recruiting class as a "Lemming" -- the same way
that every single Notre Dame class was ranked top 5 by the recruiting guru, so
will any Urban Meyer class. So I'm not sure at this point that the class is as
good as advertised or if they didn't just get a 10% markup for the coach's name.
How many days until spring football?
GO CATS!!!

Good to see Bielema calling UM out about poaching.
Based on the reports that I've read, UM actively recruits kids who have already
given verbal commits to other schools. While this is a common practice in some
leagues, and certainly legal under NCAA rules, the unwritten rule in the BT is
that you don't poach from BT other schools. Apparently nobody told UM.
So how did UM assemble his great recruiting class in just a little over two
months on the job? He stole one from MSU, one from Wisky, four from PSU, and
two from other schools outside the BT.
These tactics pretty much transformed the SEC into an NCAA recruiting violations
cesspool.
If this year's recruiting class is any indication, the BT may also become much
more competitive between schools.
It is tough to argue with the results because the SEC does out recruit every
other conference for top athletes, but at what cost?
Jeff

From the Trib:
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-bielema-calls-out-meyer-on-illegal-recrui
ting-tactics-20120202,0,3093232.story
Which could explain why dOSU changed coaches and still had a top 5 class
grabbing 4
players from State Penn.
But what is great is that none of these rumors and complaints ever seem to
involve NU.
Refreshing, now let the kids play.
