[NU Sports] Hank Told Skip what it was going to be like....

Army has been getting better and better, and seems to have found the right offense and
defense for the size of their personnel.

None of the service academies will ever field an O-Line with 300 lb tackles, or interior
defenders, but they won't be ground down by a bigger team either.

Paul Johnson proved you could be competitive at the service academies at Navy, following
what Air Force had done back in the 90's. Army is a natural for a wishbone attack and as
they get better and better, and recruit players who want an Army career and can play a
triple option, they will rise up and strike someone again, the way they did it to us
Saturday.

I think Coach Hank (and Fitz) were hinting all week about how tough the West Pointer's D
and O could be in their home stadium. They proved it Saturday.

Personally, I've always liked the 5-1 with a rover as a good way to stop both the passing
and rushing style team. It requires a phenomenal athlete at the Rover because he needs to
both cover and play run, but when you get that kid in position, the opponents never know
where the rush is coming from - they can really disrupt your game plan in a hurry.

Even worse from an offensive point is the 3-5, with 3 big guys up front and 5
linebacker/safeties. You never know where the 4th rusher is coming from.

Now, the lessons to be learned will now be in the film room - the O-Line needs to figure
out how to adjust to a smaller, quicker defenses, altho most of the Big 10 is of the
bigger front 4 variety. I think we can almost count on Persa starting against Illinois,
and if Coulter is back in - blitz, blitz and blitz.

<Seems that Hank and Fitz had a pretty good idea about how hard it would be
to stop Army.

I don't want to hear how we couldn't stop them. I want to know how they
were able to stop us when they gave up 49 to Northern Illinois and 24 to San
Diego State. Army is never any good, and we lost to them. It IS more
embarrassing than the loss Miami of Ohio in '95 because then everyone
assumed it was old NU falling back into normal character after what must
have been a fluky win over Notre Dame. It wasn't true in the end, but no
one knew it then. Now we're supposed to beat up on teams like Army.

Hopefully, Fitz can use this to motivate the team the way Barnett used MOH
in '95. But we have not played well against three weak opponents (BC is now
obviously in that category), and we don't have a Darnell Autry to ride. The
rest of the season is officially scary.
