The world of technology is pretty amazing, and I'm very glad to hear about everyone's creative ways to utilize the technologies that are available. Since you brought up TuneIn, an absolute incredible app, my company has just partnered with them to create a whole new directory of sports teams/organizations dedicated channels, from the pro/college level to the high school level. In addition, we'll have specific channels for soccer, hockey, basketball, speedways, horse racing, etc. If they can stream, they can have their own channel for about a dollar a day. On the high school side, this will also be used as an educational tool, where they can stream not only their games, but seminars, assemblies, choral concerts, debates, graduations, etc. On the college/pro side, they can use the rest of the non-live time as a promotional tool for their club, etc. Each school/team has their logo included. So if you are missing the 6th race at Arlington, or your kid's football game, if t
he track or school is streaming it, you won't miss a thing.
The baseball team for which I work was the first team in the country to have its own channel, and we were overwhelmed at the number of people who listened our games via their smartphone platform. TuneIn is far and away the industry leader, and we're very excited about our partnership. I'll be quite busy reaching out to leagues, teams, schools, worldwide.
If you want more info on this, feel free to get in touch.

I had a similar experience this weekend being unable to watch the game
live. I used the tunein app on my iPhone to listen to WNUR in my car
(through the stereo's iPod connection) and as I wandered around the
fairgrounds I'd gone to with my parents. In California! It was genius.
I didn't miss a play except during coverage dropouts, which were not
as frequent as I expected considering how bad AT&T's coverage is here.

Prior to this weekend, the most interesting was probably when I followed the last few minutes of that big double-OT win over Minny back in--2007 I think--by refreshing an ESPN web page on my old Blackberry while on a hike in the mountains of North Carolina. It was actually a fairly exciting way to keep track of the game, but was a far cry from being there, or hearing a live radio call.

Initially I thought this would be no problem, as we can usually get WGN radio coverage on the whole route. The Cubs-induced switch to ESPN 1000 for this game scuttled that, as reception faded below the noise threshold right about the time the pre-game show was ending.

Now if we could just figure out how to stop those 3rd-and long situations.... (don't we say that every year?)
