Sons and Daughters,

Welcome to a NU year of Wildcat Football. The long wait is over,
the world is purple again and it's time to play football. Hail to purple, hail
to white, hail to thee Northwestern. 


Our beloved alma mater is poised for another amazing season.
Pat's Cats are ready for a 4th consecutive bowl game. We have the
second most experienced offensive line in college football, more depth at wide
receiver than anyone can remember, and outstanding athletes at every position
on defense. 


It is a special thing to be a part of Northwestern football. We
live by a simple creed, “In Fitz We Trust.” Fitz is the leader of our program.
#51 was an awesome player and continues to make the purple proud on the
sidelines. He is the reason we reheat our coffee for 51 seconds in the
microwave, he is the reason our student section is known as Area 51, he is the
reason we try to park in space 51 at work, and (although I can’t prove it yet)
he is the reason Northwestern was founded in 1851. 


This year we ‘welcome’ Nebraskato the Big Ten.
(yawn) Nebraska, just so we are
clear, NorthwesternUniversityis NU. You are at
best UNL (we read left to right in this league). I will also accept USIN (University of Somewhere InNebraska) USIN, Hmmmmm…Was
that a Freudian reference to the sins of your past? My apologies.

Tomorrow our NU year celebration begins with the Boston College
Eagles. CATS EAT BIRDS!!!! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for BC as
they were the victims of my first ever Wildcat victory in 1993. But seriously
BC, I can’t take you seriously. Your best player in history is shorter than I
am and your jerseys are maroon, the poor man’s purple. Whether it’s by
PersaStrong or HurriKain Colter, you’re in for a long day tomorrow. 


Let our NU year begin. This our time and we
are ready. From the dorms and apartments in Evanstonthe students are
cheering, “Let’s Go Cats!” From Orland Parkto Lincoln Parkto Nevin’s Pub
Chicagoland is cheering, “Let’s Go Cats!” At alumni gatherings from LA to Austinto Blondie’s in Manhattanthey are proudly
cheering, “Let’s Go Cats!”  Around the world all members of the purple
pride are loudly cheering, “LET’S GO CATS!!!!!!!!”
 
Happy NU Year to all. I will see you at the
Rose Bowl.
