[NU Sports] Thank goodness Persa gets it!

This last drive was test #1 of the game and our O. IU cut the lead to 24-14 and NU was pinned back deep.

McCall sure tried to play according to the season script, with unimaginative play calls that put us in 3rd and long twice. Thankfully, Persa hit the throws -- especially that scramble to Colter for the big play. And then a perfect pass and great catch by Dunsmore.

We tried to let up on the gas, but Mr. Persa just took the wheel and floored it - thank you #7!

Now ... KEEP THE PEDAL TO THE METAL! Hear that, McCall???

The best way to stall IU's ground game? Make them have to throw down 21.

My beloved Saints have been in a similar situation a couple times this year with a D that has plenty of holes and an O that jumps up by a couple scores and falls asleep ... it bit them in the butt when Tampa came back and the O couldn't get their mojo back after going in clock control mode. But then they came out against an inferior defense last SNF vs. Indy and scored, and kept scoring and kept scoring. Again! Again! Again!

THAT'S what I want to see out of the NU offense today. I don't care what our defense does - turnovers are great, stops are nice, holding to FGs? Meh. I don't care. It's all in the O's hands. Score and score some more and don't take the second half off. Maybe Persa needs to get all "Jay Cutler" with McCall and just say "chuck it, I'm calling the play!"

KEEP IT UP, CATS!!!

I think they heard you!

How about V Mark fighting for yards on that option. And you know a stadium is empty when you can clearly hear Persa switch up protections like that.

Six ... not three, Cats!

We know our defense is awful - and they made Indiana look like Oklahoma on that first series.

But still, that's not a surprise. We know the other team is gonna score. A lot.

The problem in this losing streak is that our offense has played -- at best -- a half of football each game. The could only muster 7 points on Army (the game that really is the killer for our bowl hopes) for most of that game, they started slow at Iowa and they took a half off against the Illini, Wolverines and Nits.

And now they take half a series off to open the IU game -- start strong and then look laxidasical once they get close. Play calling, execution, everything - they need to have a sharp focus and come out with the mentality to move the ball every series and score SIX and not THREE on these drives.

If the Indiana D is as broken down as they say, and our offense is as good as we think, then we should be scoring a touchdown on just about every series this game.

It's not what the D does today, it's what our O does.

They need to wake up and score - and then score some more. And again. And again. And again. For the WHOLE game.

GO CATS!!!
