>From the story on the Big East....

Rutgers does bring the New York market which puts the BTN main channel on systems both in
New Jersey AND New York for free. I think the number quoted was 20% in the New York market
followed Rutgers. Not a bad following.

But do you put Rutgers in the Legends? Or the Leaders? And the same with the Evil Empire.

Like it or not, Notre Dame is still the brass ring. If the school itself
is finally willing (they've walked away from multiple deals in the past),
how their NBC deal works into the equation will be the final sticking point.

And will anyone care, even in New Jersey?

The only reason to bring in a Rutgers-like school is to maintain
competitive balance, bring in one 'big name' program (even if it is one
that has been on the outs for a decade or more) and one 'also-ran' program
that other schools can feed upon.

Rutgers in the Big Ten makes even less sense than West Virginia in
the Big 12, and that's probably going to happen in the next few days.
