[NU Sports] I want to see Trevor play

Two things:

1. if Coulter does become the starter, we better have a backup ready to go all the time.
As with all QBs, Kane is one hit away from being done for the season. We saw what happened
last year when Persa went down.

2. Personally, I think Coulter's future is as a slot back, a position where he can run the
ball, catch the ball, and throw the ball. Maybe run some direct snap stuff.

And remember Eric Peterman? The guy who ran for a TD, caught at TD and threw for a TD in
one game? I can see Coulter in that role with an accurate, big arm guy taking most of the
snaps.

If the spread is all about keeping the other guys off balance, Coulter as "slash" just
might be the answer for the next 3 years.

No doubt that Trevor has an impressive arm, and has a huge upside. It's clear from the
game and Fitz's comments this week that Trevor was basically slotted in as the "passing"
backup QB for this game. Whether that was due to his superior passing skills, or is more a
result of how busy Kain is getting reps at WR, I don't know.

However, I still think Colter could be a great starting QB for us. The dual-threat QB
thing is awfully intriguing, and his throwing skills would certainly continue to improve
given how dedicated he obviously is.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Siemian does end up in the QB role next year, with Colter
as a WR/QB "slash" player. He's already scary-good as a WR despite very limited reps. Zack
Oliver may have something to say about all of that too though.

In any case, I sure hope Persa is good to go. However good Siemian may become, he's
probably nowhere near Dan's level at this point. Consider that his PSU outing including an
overthrow on what would have been a sure TD to Ebert (which might have given us a chance
to pull out a victory), an admittedly perfect throw into triple coverage that nearly got
Ebert killed, plus another incompletion.

I generally agree, but on the other hand, it was really working well at times against PSU.
It's a fine line between getting your own QB's out of rhythm versus keeping the opposition
off balance. And given Kain's success running the offense, you can understand why they do
it.
