[NU Sports] Sad Cats

It was a wonderful homecoming weekend except for the game, great weather  
and fall colors, saw a lot of old friends, a nice amazingrace reunion staring 
 our own Jeff Beamsley and my old friend Andy Francis, had a couple nice 
chats  with Morty Shapiro,  A real fan and nice fellow. Went to a tailgate at 
frat  brother Jack Smeeton's house a block from Dyche and saw a lot of old 
ball  players Had to sit in the Penn State section, whose fans were really 
well  behaved, too bad we lost.

Bottom  line is that we are not physically or talent-wise a good Big Ten   
team.  We're recruiting at the level of an average MAC team  and  that must 
change or we will never again compete at the top of the  Big  Ten.  I

that improved recruiting is not  something  falling only on the shoulders

the football coaching  staff but on the entire  University starting with 
President Schapiro  and AD Phillips.  If we want to  match Stanford's

Our  defense is nothing  short of terrible.  It's not quite like the dismal 
 
days of  yore, but they're getting there.  There is no excuse given  the  
number of experienced players in the lineup.  And by the second   half, our 
offense wears down because the offensive line lacks the size  and  strength 
to 
play an entire game against a tough  defense.  Please, no  excuses about if 
we'd have done this or  that or gotten this break we would  have won last 
night.  We got  whooped by a physically superior team  just as we did 
against  
Michigan and will several more times before the  season ends sans  bowl 
game.
