To be picky, the pros use only the turnover ratio in the individual game since teams can
effect that by playing different defenses.

The Ravens’ guys were amazed that 1. The Ravens were -2 in turnovers, and 2. That they won
at -2 since they usually lose when the TO ratio is negative.

If I’m reading the stats right, NU is ahead in turnovers – in the 4 losses its 5 for NU, 8
for the other guys
. Or a +3.

I guess it all comes down to averages, NU averages 7.4 yds per pass, the opponents average
9.8 yds per pass or almost 2 ½ more yards per pass play. The differential is even greater
on catches – 10.6 to 16.6!

I like our numbers, as long as you’re over 4 yards per play, you can move the ball. But
we’re allowing, on average, a first down on every completed pass by our opponents, and
almost a first down on any pass! It’s hard to play “bend don’t break” when every
completion is a first down.

So you flush the YTD stats and move forward – and expect victory Saturday night.

Turnovers are important but they aren't the end-all: Northwestern is ranked 17th
nationally with a +0.83 turnover/game margin this year.

But if you throw the long opponents' passes allowed in with turnovers in the "big play"
category, those big plays are certainly tilting against the 'Cats.

In the Pros, they also have some unwritten rule about turnovers - the Baltimore media guys
were talking about how the Ravens won last week, even though they were -2 in turnovers.

The Cats are in the minus column on those also.
