Couldn't agree more. I'm not excusing the defensive lapses of the past three games, but the reason we didn't win those games was just as much the O as the D, if not more. No one expected the D to hold Michigan, but we should expect our offense to hold on to double digit leads.

The O never got going against Army and it fell asleep after big leads against the Illini and Michigan. The play calling change was distinctive -- either we went into a shell with the lead, or we failed to adjust to the second-half defensive adjustments of Michigan or Illinois. Either way, the OC is just as much on the hot seat as the DC in my book.

In the Michigan game, our D played a pretty strong first half. Three turnovers and really only allowing Michigan to score off a fluke jump ball (nothing we could do about that unless we find a 7-foot corner) and off of our turnover on downs. Catch that ball in the end zone before the half and it's 28-14. But then the O stopped running, stopped putting drives together and stopped controlling the tempo of the game.

The faint silver lining is that the Illini and Wolverines are unbeaten right now, so while we should have had enough O to beat them, it's not like they're bad losses (like Army). But it also leaves no room for error the rest of the way - so Iowa is a must must win game.

The D needs to blitz more. Yeah, it will result in getting beat some plays, but it's better than sitting back and waiting all day for the QB to pick apart our coverage. Robinson was tougher to blitz than most QBs because he could escape so easily -- but against the rest of the schedule, BLITZ! BLITZ! BLITZ! The Wolverines had a well-timed blitz in the second half that really swung momentum. We need plays like that and some turnovers - we can't do that by sitting back.

As for the O, they need to ignore the scoreboard and play every drive like they're down 10 and in a hurry to move the ball downfield. Be aggressive!

GO CATS!!!
