BTW - if you follow the ex-Cubs rule, Texas will prevail because they are the only team left in the hunt that is cubs-free. Based on last night's marathon in the D, they are looking pretty good.

Subject: [NU Sports] PIGSKIN PICKS - Week 7

Good trip to the midwest -- outside of the game, of course -- piles of work to get through at home, including some standings, so hopefully those will be out soon, Until then, enjoy the week 7 lineup, as the Battle of Michigan takes center stage on the Big Ten Northwest race (especially with Crick out at UNL) and some more Big XII teams have to play each other (finally!) and be exposed as Top 25 pretenders. Seriously, PLAY SOMEBODY! If the Huskers can dominate that league and then almost lose at home to a Big Ten team that will struggle to get six wins this year, that only proves my point on how the Big XII is overrated every year by these ESPN folks who refuse to acknowledge that in college football, the pecking order goes SEC, then Big Ten, then everyone else. So quit looking to the Big XII or Pac 10 for your overhyped reports.

On a lighter note, the fun of these new divisions (with stupid names I still refuse to mention) was on display during my midwestern trip. First, you had Maize and Blue fans in Evanston who were conflicted as score reports came in from Lincoln ... cheer for the (gulp) Buckeyes??? But they ARE kicking the snot out of our divisional rival??? Dunno exactly how that happened, but they did manage to choke. And after the game, during a visit in Wisconsin, I found out that Badger fans are now also big Wolverine fans and want a battle of the unbeatens in Indy between Bucky and Michigan. Could be interesting if the World Series is Tigers/Brewers, the NFC Norris comes down to the Lions/Packers and the Wolverines/Badgers meet in Indy at 12-0 with a spot in the title game on the line. All roads lead to Michigan and Wisconsin these days, I guess. For now, I don't care if they're in our division or not - just GET THE WIN! Our D cannot be trusted to make the stop, so
the O needs to be aggressive and not just sit on big leads they build at halftime.

Picks due by kickoff Saturday ... GO CATS!!! BEAT IO_A!!!

MY PICKS========GAME 1: ILLINOIS ... The blown lead last week will devastate the Bucks, who just can't keep up with the Illini in Champaign.
GAME 2: WISCONSIN ... Easiest call of the week, as Bucky is rested and ready to hang a hundred on the Hoosiers.GAME 3: MICHIGAN ... Signs point to a Sparty upset at home, but I just got a feeling that the Wolverines have one more miracle play in 'em at the end
GAME 4: PENN STATE ... How are the 1-loss (to unranked ND) Spartans ranked and the 1-loss (to #2 Bama) Lions not? PSU wins U-G-L-Y again, but it's a win.GAME 5: LSU ... Tigers are just beating people up until Bama comes into town - the SEC is now the Big Two and other tenGAME 6: AUBURN ... It's the Cheatin' Cam Newton Bowl - free laptops and heavy envelopes addressed to dad for everyone! The young QB gets rattled for the Gators on the road.
GAME 7: OKLAHOMA STATE ... Would love if the Horns could pull the upset, but they don't have the firepower to match the CowpokesGAME 8: TEXAS TECH ... The Raiders' charmed (and overrated) run ended last week, this week they end the run for K-State
GAME 9: TEXAS A&M ... Aggies will be angry at the Bears for trying to hold up their move to the SECGAME 10: OREGON ... Pac 12 title game preview goes to the home team, though it could be close for a half

And off the board ...

* NORTHWESTERN ... Iowa will be looking for payback, but we really really REALLY need this W and seem to at least have Io_a figured out ... I hope.
