Still stinging the morning after ... wondering how you can lose when your QB has four TD passes, the O doesn't turn it over and the D shuts down their rushing game ... ugh.
But time for NU and Wildcat fans to shake it off because there simply isn't time to mope with the Big Ten home opener and undefeated Michigan up.
This is an "SOS - Save Our Season" Saturday, folks. We do not want to be 2-3 heading into Kinnick for a night game against a group of Hog-eyes angry at us for years of frustration.
Since I'm quite sure our defense will not be able to contain the Denard Robinson Show (we can hope for some turnovers or to shut down the run, but I'm seeing Maize and Blue streaking and crossing all over our secondary, sadly, and little pressure on the most mobile QB in college football) ... what we will need to win this game is aggressive play calling. Should we get up by a score, do NOT go into a shell and run the darn ball up the middle for 10 out of the next 12 friggin' plays. We need the offensive mix we saw coming out of the locker room in the first five minutes of the third quarter at Ill-noise. We need the killer instinct to go play-action and deep, to run both inside and out and to call the screens at the right time (but for heaven's sake, if you run the option, put Colter in there).
We're also gonna need some breaks - turnovers, no dumb penalties and lots of home field magic. Hopefully the crowd is loud and purple. Not cutting the grass all week might help as well.
It can be done, but we need to be sharp for a full 60 minutes and we need to never take the foot off the gas. The margin for error is gone and we need to save our season - here's challenging Fitz and Persa to get their team ready and come out with the game of the year under the lights.
GO CATS!!!
