[NU Sports] Some early rust and early thoughts ...

Persa did look rusty and hesitant to run ... but still good to see him back in purple.

The front seven of the D looks good, but the secondary's been burned a couple times for WIIIIIIIIIDE open plays. Gotta stop that. The Peters pick in the end zone was much needed ... especially after those flags put UI virtually on the goal line.

Interesting how Pam Ward has already mentioned how Illinois is "off to their best start in 60 years" and that it's homecoming in Champaign (and we all know that they invented homecoming at Ill-noise - if you don't their announcer will remind you 500 times in the stadium that day) ... yet the place seems half empty??? Pathetic showing, Orange Crush.

I realize NU doesn't have much weight in criticizing attendance, but at least we have our reasons ... Illinois is always thought of as being some sort of sleeping giant for football power with a supposed Chicago recruiting pipeline/market - yet when they're in the top 25, playing their in-state rival for homecoming and off to their best start in 60 years, they still can't pack the stands??? Reminds me of 2001 when we had that late Thanksgiving game in Champaign and they were playing us for a Big Ten title and still couldn't muster much of a crowd. "It was a holiday weekend" I heard as an excuse, but no, it was just Ill-noise football. Met with a big "meh" by their campus and community.
