[NU Sports] Oh yeah....

I think that the upgraded non-conference schedule this year should help a lot if
we go 9-9 in the B1G.

Last year, our schedule was so weak that I'm not sure that 9-9 would have gotten
us in (of course, we'll never know)...

My bad,

I assumed that we have home and home with OSU, Wisky, and UoM.  We only
have one game on the road with Wisky, so assuming we lose all of those
games, we can only lose FOUR more games in the conference to get to
21-10.

So that means we can have one more loss at home against Ill, MSU, UNL,
or Purdue; or one more road loss against Indiana, PSU, Minny, or Iowa
and still go 9-9 in the conference.

Combine that with what Harry reminds me is a 68 team tourney field this
year, and our prospects are looking even better for our first trip to
the dance.

This is going to be a challenging season to get to 21 wins (20 didn't
get us in last year).

We've got a 13 game non con season with tough games against Baylor
(currently ranked 11/12) at home and Creighton on the road.  Let's
assume we go 12-1 (loss to Baylor).

OSU, Wisky, and UoM are all ranked in the top 25 this year.

Let's assume we lose all of those games.

That means we can only afford to lose three more games in conference to
go 9-9 in the conference and finish the regular season at 21-10 and not
have to depend on the BT tourney to get our dance invitation.  So we
have to hold home court against  Ill,  MSU, UNL, and Purdue; beat
Indiana on the road; and sweep PSU, Minny, and Iowa.

Now that I've written it down, it certainly seems doable.  I agree that
the health of our starting 5 is key.

Jeff

Let's see what happens during the Big Ten season.  I would love to be as

sanguine as you about the NU basketball team, but this Pennsylvanian is
from
Missouri.

I will buy long underwear and a parka in anticipation of my death.
