NU won a tourney 2 years ago beating Notre Dame in the semi's and Iowa State in the finals.

I can't recall Northwestern ever winning a pre-season tournament, nor can I 
emember ever being able to watch the tournament in which they were 
articipating on TV.  They played sound basketball but against mid-level 
eams.  The Big Ten will be much tougher.  There is hope, but I'm still not 
oing to get excited until I see "Northwestern" on the NCAA bracket.  Maybe 
 should go back to school because my senior year was the last time they had 
 winning record in the Big Ten.
