Any list members who have not yet read "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer" by
Warren St. John really must do so.
See http://www.rammerjammeryellowhammer.com/wstjohn-book.htm
St. John grew up in Alabama as a Crimson Tide fan (as a preteen, even got a
picture with Bear Bryant near the end of his career). He went away to
college at Columbia, where all his classmates thought him crazy because of
the degree to which college football mattered to him, and he couldn't
fathom how his classmates inexplicably didn't seem to care about
football--or sports in general--at all. He mentions Columbia's and NU's
losing streaks early in the book. He wrote this book as an attempt to
figure out what makes sports fans tick, and why it matters so much to some
people and so little to others. It's a great, funny read. If you've been
a college football fan for a while, you'll remember parts of the 1999-2000
season he chronicled and maybe some of the older games he references.
