I saw most of the telephonic interview on Brian Williams' Newsmagazine show tonight. Bob Costas conducted the interview, and he was tough and focused as a questioner. As a former prosecutor who now does a limited amount of criminal defense work, I am somewhat amazed that Sandusky's attorney not only allowed him to be interviewed, but sat next to Costas on-camera as his client was questioned. The Pennsylvania Attorney General must have been very happy to have Sandusky admit in a recorded statement to the showers and the touching---assuming that Sandusky might want to take the stand at trial, the more the prosecutor knows about what he is going to say, the easier it is to prepare for cross-examination. The defense seems to be that he didn't engage in the sexual acts alleged, and the attorney said they have found the boy (now a young man) who was with Sandusky in the showers when McQueary walked in, and hinted that he will support Sandusky's version. We shall see--my money is on the Commonwealth (prosecution).

This story is just growing and growing and growing.......or to put it more bluntly, metastasizing.

I think it very possible that PSU will decline a bowl bid, although if they make it fhrough to the BT Championship Game, I would expect them to play. One reason was alluded to in one of today's posts. If they don't go to a bowl, then the remaining staff will be free to look for new jobs--which will be a difficult task in any circumstance. However, if they do go bowling, then those assistants will have to remain focused on trhe bowl game, not their futures. Plus, a bowl is viewed as a celebration and a reward--two concepts that seem out of place at this juncture.
