[NU Sports] More on rivalries

Iowa became more of a rival back in the 90's, with Gary B taking on Hayden Fry, but it
seems lately that as NU tries to become "Chicago's Big 10 Team," the games with Illinois
take on more of a rivalry feel, at least among the media and their players.
One of Carmody's big goals has to be to more regularly beat the Illini on the hardwood,
and I know Zook hit us pretty hard when he took over down in Shampoo-Banana.
Of course, when you are regularly beating someone, you become a big rival to them.

Not sure if I run it down ... I always say that Iowa is our REAL rival and Wisky is my
personal rival ... but I recognize that the in-state, public/private school thing is our
official rivalry.
And as such, it should be played at the end of the year and not as our first game.
The chance to bash Delaney was just the icing on the cake. :)
I realize UNL/PSU played a couple big games a quarter of a century ago, but protected
rivals based on that? Really? Especially when they're the two teams furthest apart
distance wise in the Big Ten? Seems weak. Notre Dame and Tennessee played a couple of good
games in the 80s as well. Are they rivals? What about Colorado and Michigan? Miami and
Oklahoma?
But anyway, if Delaney hadn't tried to mess with geography, we wouldn't have the stupid
divisions or even more lame division names.
And death to the B(C)S!

SJT, aren't you the same guy who runs down the Illini rivalry every year and now it's
ultra-sacred just so you can bash Delany? Your slip is showing unless I am mistaken about
your Illini bashing.
Also Nebraska-Penn State makes a bit of sense as UNL's other 2 obvious rivals (minny and
iowa) are divisional rivals and the Huskers and Lions have an intense if brief history in
the late 70's and early 80's.
the division names are stupid. The divisions aren't the best but they could also be worse
(NU could be in a division with Ohio State).
